The Namuwongo Blazers have finally done it in front of a roaring Lugogo crowd on Wednesday night, the Blazers ended City Oilers’ decade-long reign to lift their first-ever National Basketball League title, sealing a 68–55 victory in Game Six of the finals.

It was the night a new chapter began. City Oilers entered the season chasing an 11th straight championship, but the Blazers, driven by belief and hunger, overturned a 0–2 series deficit to win the best-of-seven 4–2.

The tone was set early. The Blazers raced to a 6–0 start, forcing Oilers to chase. Mer Maker and Joseph Chuma briefly steadied the champions, and Chad Bowie’s put-back gave them a 16–15 edge after the first quarter.

But the tide soon turned. After Fayed Baale’s quick threes stretched Oilers’ lead to nine, Joel Banza answered with sharp shooting before Anthony Chukwubuka’s drive tied it 29–29.

A Jimmy Enabu layup made it 35–35 at halftime, the calm before the storm.

Then came the shift, Enabu’s three-pointer and James Okello’s layup opened the third quarter for Blazers, but the Oilers refused to fold.

Arthur Wanyoto’s mid-range jumper capped a dominant stretch that gave Namuwongo a 53–45 lead heading into the final quarter.

From there, it was all composure. The Blazers outworked and outshot their rivals, closing out a 13-point win, the night the Oilers’ dynasty finally fell.

James Okello led the way with 16 points, while Jimmy Enabu added 12 and Peter Obleng 11 as the Blazers wrote their name into Ugandan basketball history.
