The Namuwongo Blazers will represent Uganda in the Road to Basketball Africa League (BAL) 2026 qualifiers, the Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA) announced Friday.

The decision followed a meeting with this year’s National Basketball League semifinalists City Oilers, Sommet, UCU Canons and the Blazers at the Uganda Olympic Committee offices in Lugogo.

FUBA General Secretary Hudson Ssegamwenge said the choice was unanimous after City Oilers, the reigning champions, opted out, and both Sommet and UCU Canons also declined.

The Blazers were the only team willing to compete on the continental stage.

FUBA also revealed that starting with the 2026 season, the NBL calendar will run from January to July to allow more time to select Uganda’s BAL representatives.

“The 2026 NBL champion will represent Uganda in the Road to BAL unless the rules change,” the federation stated.

The tournament serves as the gateway to Africa’s top basketball league, giving the Blazers a chance to showcase Ugandan talent on the continent’s biggest stage.
