Fresh off their historic National Basketball League title, the Namuwongo Blazers have named their 14-man squad for the Road to BAL East Division Elite 16, set for 18–23 November at the Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani, Nairobi.
The Friday evening announcement underlined the Blazers’ ambition as they push for a place in the prestigious Basketball Africa League (BAL).
The Blazers have refreshed their lineup from the team that featured in the zonal qualifiers, adding key pieces to boost their continental challenge.
American point guard Jovan Mooring, formerly with South Africa’s Made By Ball, headlines the new arrivals.
His leadership, shot creation, and scoring threat are expected to spark the Blazers’ backcourt.
Senegalese center Mohammed Sidy Djitte brings size and rim protection to a frontcourt that includes James Okello and Anthony Chukwurah.
His presence should strengthen the team’s rebounding and interior defense.
Meanwhile, scorer Jaycson BeReal Jr., one of the standouts during the zonal qualifiers, remains a vital offensive weapon heading into a tough group that features hosts Nairobi City and South Africa’s Johannesburg Giants.
In a surprise boost, Tonny Drileba, who coached the team through the qualifiers and helped deliver last week’s league title returns to action as a player.
