Wakiso Hill Women Football Club secured a crucial 2-0 victory over UCU Lady Cardinals on Saturday at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende in a matchday 13 FUFA Women Super League fixture.
Rashida Nankya emerged the hero for the home side, netting both goals in the second half. Her first came just two minutes after the break, capitalizing on poor marking by UCU’s defence to slot the ball past goalkeeper Anita Akayo.
Nankya doubled Wakiso Hill’s lead just three minutes later, capitalizing on a miscommunication between Akayo and her defender. The loose ball fell perfectly for Nankya, who tapped it into an empty net to put the home side firmly in control.
The Antelopes had another chance to extend their lead but Teopista Apino‘s shot inside the box lacked power and was saved by Akayo.
Wakiso on the Rise
Wakiso Hill held on to their 2-0 lead to secure their third win of the season and their first ever consecutive victories in the FUFA Women Super League. This vital win propels them to ninth position with 11 points, just one point away from safety.
Meanwhile, UCU Lady Cardinals remain in fourth place with 14 points from 13 games, but their position is precarious as they are only three points above the relegation zone.
In the next game, Wakiso Hill will be at home against Uganda Martyrs Lubaga WFC on Wednesday 10th April, 2024 while UCU Lady Cardinals will visit Lady Doves on Sunday 14th April, 2024 in Masindi.
