  • JKL Dolphins 86-74 KCCA Leopards

The second round of the National Basketball League (NBL) tipped off in electric fashion on Friday night, as JKL Lady Dolphins surged past the KCCA Leopards with an 86–74 victory at the Lugogo Indoor Arena.

At the heart of the Dolphins’ dominant performance was Shadia Nassanga, who delivered a commanding double-double, finishing with a game-high 21 points and 16 rebounds.

The match began at a blistering pace with JKL outscoring KCCA 30–26 in a tightly contested first quarter; however, the highlight came with five minutes to go in the quarter, where Perus Nyamwenge floored JKL’s new signing Ruth Letaru.

In the second period, Tracy Namugoosa produced a moment of magic, shaking off a body to push KCCA to a powerful response to lead 48–47 at halftime.

The Dolphins roared back in the second half, one where the Leopards’ struggles continued, managing only 12 points, something that proved costly.

A 24-point third quarter and tight defensive execution in the final stretch sealed the win for the defending champions.

Nassanga was ably supported by a well-rounded team effort. Veteran forward Hope Akello also posted a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds while Evelyn Nakiyinji impressed with 20 points.

Agatha Kamwadda

Agatha Kamwada added 17 points, proving that JKL’s offensive threats were too many for the Leopards to contain.

For KCCA, Margaret Bagaala led the fight with a gritty double-double of her own, recording 10 points and 12 rebounds. Susan Aanyu was a bright spot with 22 points while Perus Nyamwenge added 15.

With the win, the JKL Lady Dolphins not only mark a strong start to the second round but also reaffirm their intentions to defend their championship.
