Thomas Opio scored four goals as Weatherhead (Men) thumped Thunders 11-1 to secure their second win in the National Hockey League.
The defending champions who pummeled KHC Originals 10-1 in their opening game last weekend obliterated Thunders to consolidate their position at the top of the table.
With seven goals to his name now, Opio is the early leading goalscorer, but he is closely followed by his teammates Colline Batusa and Timothy Ntumba. Both players scored two on Sunday to each take their tally to five goals.
Weatherhead rivals Wananchi and KHC Stallions also had it easy over the weekend. The two avoided an opening weekend face off after their game was postponed, but opened their respective campaigns with comprehensive wins.
Wananchi beat Makerere 8-1 while KHC beat Weatherhead Titans 10-0. Jerome Owori scored three for his Wananchi side while Jordan Mpiima netted three as well for the Stallions.
It was easy pickings for the two, but the game of the weekend pitted KHC Originals against City Lions. The encounter wrapped up match day two and it was what the fans expected.
Both sides took the lead in intervals, but it was City Lions who came out on the good side of a 3-2 affair. It was the Lion’s first win and one that takes them sixth in the table standings.
Elsewhere, Badgers continued with their remarkable start to season. After their 1-0 win over City Lions last weekend, they beat Rockets 4-1 to go second in the league standings.
Rockets decend to fifth following that loss. After match day two, Makerere, Titans and the Originals remain the only sides without a win, but the Titans drop to the bottom because of their inferior goal difference.
