Weatherhead (W) proved too good for Wananchi (W) as the side beat their rivals 5-3 on Sunday to go second in the National Women’s Hockey League.

Weatherhead drew first blood through Gloria Amony who scored a brace inside the first two quarters, but while Irene Atim and Rachel Afoyorwoth drew Wananchi level in the second quarter, Weatherhead regained their lead and ultimately won the game.

After Anita Atim and Jolly Alimo scored for their respective teams to put the game at 3-3, Abigail Brenda and Patience Asiimwe’s goals proved the difference.

The duo scored in the fourth quarter and Wananchi had no response for that.

Weatherhead entered the game placed third, a point behind Wananchi, but they now dislodge their rivals from that position.

The win keeps them three points behind table leaders Kampala Swans.

KHC beat Wananchi-HDF 2-0 to stay top of the table. Lucy Akello, who currently tops the club’s goal-scoring charts scored the two goals.

She takes her tally of goals to 19, just two behind leading goal scorer Doreen Mbabazi from Wananchi.

Kampala Swans leads the table standings with 29 points, Weatherhead are second with 26 while Wananchi drop to third with 24.
