2026 National Basketball League | Women | Friday March 13,

  • UCU Lady Canons 57-40 Pearl Queens

UCU Lady Canons defeated Pearl Queens 57–40 in a National Basketball League game played on Friday at the Lugogo Indoor Arena.

The match started slowly, with both teams struggling to find rhythm. Martina Anyango won the opening jump ball and Sylvia Nakituuka gave UCU their first points with two free throws.

Turnovers dominated the early minutes and scoring chances were few. Agatha Kamwada also missed from the line for Pearl Queens as the tension showed on both sides.

Djeneba Ballo tried to keep Pearl Queens in the contest and by the end of the opening quarter the teams were level at 8–8.

UCU looked sharper in the second quarter. Sylvia Nantongo opened the period with a lay-up before Akello Scovia replied for Pearl Queens.

Martina Anyango then began to control the boards, collecting rebounds that helped Nakituuka and Zoe Atek push the Lady Canons ahead.

The pressure paid off as UCU slowly stretched the lead and went into halftime in front 25–19.

The third quarter followed a similar pattern. UCU remained organised and managed to keep their advantage despite a brief push from Pearl Queens.

Jane Chisom Iriele sparked some life for the visitors with a late lay up and defensive rebound, but the Lady Canons still extended their lead.

Pearl Queens fought hard in the final quarter through Iriele, Ballo, Scovia, Kamwada and Racheal Nanyoga, but UCU’s defense held firm as the game ended 57–40.

Anyango led the Lady Canons with 12 points, while Nakituuka and Nantongo added 10 points each.

For Pearl Queens, Iriele scored a game-high 18 points and was the only player to reach double figures.
