The first round of the 2023 Men’s National Basketball League came to a conclusion on Wednesday with Nam Blazers finishing on a high note.

The Blazers defeated Our Saviour 66-53 to end the round in third position with a relatively good 8-3 record, hoping for an even better show in the second.

However, it was the City Oilers who made the bigger headlines, going the entire round without a single defeat.

The Moneybags, who have won the championship eight times in a row, finished the first round with a perfect 11-0 record.

They swept away almost every team with daunting scorelines and will thus hope to replicate the dominion in the second half of the season.

Meanwhile, KIU Titans followed in second with an impressive first round, as they ended it with a 9-2 record.

Last year’s semi-finalists UCU Canons didn’t quite acquit themselves to their previous season’s standards.

The Mukono-based side ended the round with an almost average 7-4 but will be expected to better this show when the action returns.

On the other hand, Our Saviour will be proud of themselves as they managed six victories as compared to the five losses, which had them finish fifth.

The Second round is just over six weeks away, with tip-off set for June 16 as teams will be fighting for playoff slots and against relegation.
