National Basketball League Women | Wednesday
- JT Lady Jaguars 57-52 UCU Lady Canons
In a game that showcased grit, heart and sheer determination, the JT Lady Jaguars clawed their way back from a rocky start to edge UCU Lady Canons 57-52 in a thrilling contest that went down to the wire in the Lugogo Indoor Arena
The Lady Canons came out blazing in the opening quarter, dominating with a 19-10 lead as their inside presence and rebounding power looked set to decide the game early.
But what followed was a steady and measured comeback from Coach Sudi Ulanga’s side, whose team refused to be written off.
Led by a collective team effort, the Jaguars began to chip away at the deficit in the second quarter, flipping momentum with a 20-11 run to head into halftime all square at 30 apiece.
UCU responded in the third, outscoring the Jaguars 17-14, but the final period belonged entirely to the team in blue and white.
The Jaguars’ defense tightened like a vice in the fourth, holding UCU to just five points while scoring 13 themselves, sealing an inspiring comeback that had the crowd on its feet.
Though the Lady Jaguars didn’t boast flashy numbers, their strength lay in unity. Only Maimuna Nabbosa hit double figures with 12 points but the team’s balanced scoring and hustle plays were enough to outlast an energetic UCU side.
UCU’s effort was spearheaded by three standout performers who all posted double-doubles: Matrina Anyango (12 points, 11 rebounds), Shillah Lamunu Aber (11 points, 12 rebounds) and Sylivia Nantongo (11 points, 10 rebounds). Yet even that trio couldn’t prevent the late-game collapse that saw the game slip through their fingers.
Elsewhere in the league, Magic Stormers edged Miracle Eaglets 65-62 in a tight contest at YMCA, Wandegeya, while Nabisunsa eased past Nkumba Lady Marines 68-54 at Abja Park.
