Sommet Basketball Club pulled off a commanding 70-62 victory over JT Jaguars in a hard-fought National Basketball League (NBL) clash on Sunday, thanks to a late-game push and a standout performance from Richard Mutawulu.

The game, held at the YMCA Court in Wandegeya, saw the two sides trade leads in a tightly contested first half, with the Jaguars edging the first quarter 18-17.

Sommet responded with a dominant second quarter, outscoring the Jaguars 25-14 to head into halftime with a 10-point cushion.

However, the Jaguars refused to back down. Led by Mark Were, Peter Sifuma, and Elijah Adakun who scored 14, 12, and 10 points respectively, the team narrowed the gap, winning the third quarter 15-14.

But it was not enough, as Sommet kept their composure in the final period, matching the Jaguars point-for-point to seal the win.

Mutawulu led all scorers with 21 points, powering Sommet’s offense with strong drives and clutch shooting. He was supported by Mark Ngobi with 15 points and Hon Kwany with 10, both making key contributions in maintaining their team’s lead.

Elsewhere in the NBL, the City Oilers stumbled to their fifth defeat of the season in a narrow 53-50 loss to the Kampala Rockets.

Meanwhile, KIU Titans also fell short, going down 70-61 to a sharp KCCA Panthers side.
