Seven-time National Basketball League champions, City Oilers narrowly beat rivals UCU Canons 72-64, to pick an early advantage in the 2022 edition semi-finals.

On Sunday at YMCA Wandegeya, the reigning champions managed to win game one and now have a maximum of four matches left, before they hit the finals.

Oilers’ big win was inspired by James Okello, who put up an impressive 15 points in the action-packed encounter.

Meanwhile, UCU’s Titus Lual was the biggest individual performer with 19 points and 15 rebounds.

Fayed Baale, was as great as ever, managing to grind a superb 18 points.

In another brilliant individual display, UCU’s Lwabaga Ibanda managed 10 points and seven assists, but, all this was quite not enough for a win.

When the two giants meet again for game two on Wednesday, the Mukono based side will be keen on trying to level the tie.
