Margaret Baagala stepped up when it mattered most, leading KCCA Leopards to a dramatic 67-65 win over Magic Stormers in Game One of the 2025 National Basketball League Playoffs quarterfinals on Sunday at the Lugogo Indoor Arena.

With the scores tied at 65-all and just seconds remaining, Baagala calmly sank two decisive free throws to secure victory. She finished with 10 points, 14 rebounds, and four assists in an outstanding all-round performance.

KCCA had a shaky start, trailing 16-21 after the first quarter and entering the final period down by five. But Baagala’s leadership and relentless rebounding inspired a spirited comeback as the Leopards showed composure under pressure.

Susan Becca Aanyu led KCCA’s scoring with 18 points, while Tracy Namugosa added 10. The Leopards dominated the boards, out-rebounding the Stormers 54-38 to gain a crucial edge.

For the Stormers, Joy Nekesa Mupalia posted 15 points and 11 rebounds, with Auma Angella and Daphine Adong adding 14 and 11 points respectively. But their struggles on the glass proved costly in the closing moments.

The win gives KCCA a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series, leaving them one victory away from the semifinals. Game Two promises another fierce battle as the Stormers fight to stay alive.

Still in the women’s bracket, both JKL Lady Dolphins and UCU Lady Canons swept theirs opponents to clinch Playoffs semifinal spots.

JKL beat UPDF Lady Tomahawks 77-55, while the Lady Canons came from behind to edge KIU Rangers 57-52.
