JT Lady Jaguars delivered a commanding team performance to stun defending champions JKL Lady Dolphins 69-52 in Game One of the National Basketball League Playoff Finals at Lugogo Indoor Arena on Friday night.

From the opening tip, the Jaguars showed intent and composure, unfazed by JKL’s reputation.

Guard Sandra Wangeshi set the tone early with back to back three pointers, helping her side establish a 25-16 first-quarter lead.

JKL fought back in the second quarter, tightening their defense and forcing the Jaguars into a three-minute scoring drought.

Coach Sudi Ulanga urged his players to quicken their transitions, and Rhoda Nagitta, Brenda Kayaga, and Maimuna Nabbosa responded with fast breaks that restored momentum.

JKL’s veterans Flavia Oketcho and Tamasha Nsubuga briefly steadied their side, but the Jaguars held a 37-31 halftime lead.

After the break, JKL’s Brenda Ekone and Hope Akello spearheaded a fightback, combining for 28 points.

But the Jaguars answered every run with disciplined defense and balanced scoring.

Their rotations were sharp, their bench stepped up, and they maintained control heading into the final quarter up 50-42.

In the fourth, the Jaguars tightened their defense even further, holding JKL to just 10 points while executing efficiently on offense.

Wangeshi (15 points), Shakira Nanvubya (13), and Sarah Ageno (10) led the way, but it was the team’s cohesion and energy at both ends that sealed the victory.

As the buzzer sounded, the Jaguars fans celebrated a 17-point statement win, one that gave them a 1-0 series lead and proved they’re ready to rewrite the finals narrative.

Game Two is set for Sunday at the same venue (Lugogo Indoor Arena).
