The UCU Lady Canons delivered a commanding performance on Friday night, shocking the KIU Rangers 68-57 in Game One of the 2025 National Basketball League playoffs at the Lugogo Indoor Arena.
UCU started strong, edging a tense first quarter 12-08 before stretching their lead to 34-23 at halftime with relentless defense and efficient shooting.
KIU struggled to match UCU’s energy despite a late second-quarter spark from Djeneba Ballo, whose floating jumper briefly lifted the Rangers.
After the break, UCU kept control, entering the final quarter up 54-44. The Rangers pushed for a comeback, but the Lady Canons stayed composed, closing out an 11-point win.
Hajara Najjuko and Matrina Anyango led UCU with 13 points each, while Sylivia Nantongo chipped in 11.
For KIU, Ballo scored 15, Ines Kanyamuneza added 12, and Sharon Kirabo had 10, but their efforts couldn’t derail UCU’s momentum.
The victory gives the Lady Canons a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series, putting pressure on KIU ahead of Game Two.
