Sommet Basketball Club capped off the first round of the 2025 National Basketball League (NBL) in style, cruising to a 66-50 victory over Livingstone on Wednesday at YMCA Court in Wandegeya.

In what has been a promising debut season in Uganda’s top-flight basketball, the league newcomers delivered a composed performance that saw them secure their fifth win in 11 games—cementing a strong platform for the second half of the season.

After edging ahead 28-26 by halftime in a tightly contested opening, Sommet shifted momentum decisively in the second half, outscoring Livingstone 38-24 to take full control of the game.

Mark Ngobi led the charge with a standout performance, notching a game-high 20 points and 13 rebounds to register a double-double.

He was ably supported by Hon Kwany, who added 15 points, and Richard Mutawulu, who pulled down 11 rebounds, as Sommet displayed solid teamwork and resilience.

For Livingstone, Derrick Otim and Isaac Athuai each managed 10 points, but their efforts weren’t enough to halt their slide. The loss marks Livingstone’s 10th defeat in 11 games, leaving them second from the bottom at the mid-season mark.

Sommet’s head coach, Albert Aciko, praised his side’s growth. “We’re learning every game, and today was a reflection of how far we’ve come. Now we shift focus to the second round with renewed belief,” he said.

  • KCCA Leopards dominate in Women’s Division

In the women’s division, Tracy Namugosa was unstoppable as KCCA Leopards dismantled Angels 74-35.

Namugosa poured in a game-high 22 points, while Sherinah Mwenyango and Perus Nyamwenge added 16 and 10 points respectively, as KCCA collected their eighth win in nine games.

Joan Namatovu was the lone bright spark for Angels, scoring 15 points in an otherwise difficult outing that saw them drop to eight losses in 10 games.
