In a close National Basketball League (NBL) Women 2025 encounter at MTN Arena, KCCA Leopards edged out KIU Rangers 73-65 with players from the bench playing a pivotal role in the team’s hard-fought victory.
Margaret Bagaala 13, Perus Nyamwenge 13 and Sharua Nakirya 5, all from KCCA, showed the team’s depth with 31 points coming from the bench
The game, which tipped off at 7 pm on Friday evening, was a fiercely contested battle that saw momentum shifts before the Leopards pulled away in the final quarter.

The game started with both teams going head-to-head, showcasing defensive resilience and sharp offensive execution. KCCA Leopards took a narrow 17-16 lead in the first quarter, with Aanyu and her teammates controlling the tempo.
The second quarter mirrored the first, as both teams traded baskets, eventually heading into halftime with KCCA maintaining a 32-31 advantage.
After a back-and-forth third quarter, KIU Rangers outscored KCCA 21-18, briefly taking control of the game. However, the fourth quarter belonged to the Leopards, who dominated 23-13, sealing the victory with Aanyu leading the charge.
Her ability to control the paint, convert crucial baskets, and dictate the pace of play proved instrumental in the final stretch, helping KCCA pull ahead and secure the win.
KCCA Leopards capitalized on turnovers, scoring 30 points off KIU’s mistakes and dominated in the paint, outscoring KIU 36-26.
KIU’s biggest lead was 5 points while KCCA’s largest lead stretched to 8 points in the final moments.
Aanyu, Bagaala and Nyamwenge all led the charge for KCCA with 13 points whereas Inez Kanyamuneza and Sharon Kirabo scored 15 apiece for KIU on the night.
