  • Magic Stormers 72–63 KIU Rangers

In a stunning National Basketball League (NBL) showdown on Sunday afternoon, the Magic Stormers delivered one of the most eye-catching performances of the 2025 season, overpowering the seasoned KIU Rangers 72–63 at the YMCA Court.

From the opening whistle, the Stormers asserted dominance, racing to a 15-0 run that left the Rangers reeling and chasing shadows.

It was a momentum the Stormers would never relinquish, maintaining their composure through all four quarters and outplaying a side known for its pedigree and playoff aspirations.

Stormers’ forward Sekuye Ornela was the heartbeat of the victory, posting a towering double-double of 18 points and 16 rebounds.

Guard Auma Angela led all scorers for the Stormers with 19 points while Babra Gimbo (15), Charity Lamaro (10) and Daphine Adong (10) also made significant offensive contributions in a well-balanced attack.

Despite a late surge in the second half led by Sharon Kirabo who poured in 20 points, and Ines Kanyamuneza with 15, the Rangers struggled with poor shot selection and costly turnovers.

KIU shot a woeful 5-of-31 from three-point range and committed 34 turnovers, undermining any hopes of a comeback.

The win marks Magic Stormers’ sixth victory in nine games with previous wins over Nkumba Lady Marines, UPDF Ladyhawks, Miracle Ravens, Nabisunsa and Angels.

For the KIU Rangers, it was a third loss of the season, adding pressure as the playoff race intensifies.

Stormers’ energy peaked in the fourth quarter, where they exploded for 31 points, matching their first-half total to firmly shut the door on the Rangers.

The other women’s game saw JKL Lady Dolphins soar with a 79-53 win over Miracle Eaglets.
