NEC FC have parted ways with head coach Hussein Mbalangu, bringing an end to a turbulent spell that began less than two weeks ago when he was suspended over claims of divided loyalty.

In a statement released on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, the club confirmed the mutual termination of Mbalangu’s contract, describing the decision as amicable.

“Both parties have agreed to part ways with no further obligations, allowing Coach Mbalangu to join any club of his choice,” the statement read.

Mbalangu’s suspension had stemmed from his reported involvement with Ssingo in the ongoing Masaza Cup, a move NEC saw as conflicting with his club duties.

Despite the fallout, Mbalangu leaves with his head high. He guided NEC to a second-place finish in their debut Uganda Premier League campaign and reached the Uganda Cup final, achievements that cemented his reputation as one of the country’s top young coaches.

James Odoch has been appointed interim head coach as the club searches for a permanent replacement.

“We thank Coach Mbalangu for his service and wish him success in his future endeavors,” NEC added.

NEC recently earned their first win of the season, a narrow 1–0 victory over Mbarara City at Kamwenge that lifted them to ninth place on the 16-team table with five points.

Odoch’s first real test comes on Saturday, when NEC host BUL FC at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.
