Friday 21st July, 2023, was a historical and massive day as the Uganda Female Netball team, the She Cranes, had a flag off and sendoff dinner ahead of the 2023 Netball World Cup.
It was a magnificent and fruitful event as it climaxed as planned. The Netball federation, Sponsors, players, media, fans, musicians among others was part of the colorful event.
The She Cranes Captain, Irene Eyaru thanked everyone for their support, and said that the team was “excited and ready to compete” in the World Cup.
Sponsors and Special Guests
Apart from the three officially unveiled partners and sponsors of the She Cranes that is; Plascon the main sponsors, Uganda Airlines and Gal Sports Betting Uganda, the successfully event had other partners who bought ‘tables’ in solidarity with the team.
Uganda Boxing federation (UBF) led by Moses Muhangi also bought a table in support for She Cranes.
The guest of honor, Hon. Margret Nantongo Zziwa, thanked all the sponsors and partners for their support, and said that the government of Uganda was also committed to helping the She Cranes succeed.
Federation President makes timely return.
The president of the Netball Federation Hon. Babirye Kityo Sarah had her first public appearance at the dinner since stepping aside for a period of three months.
Kityo, thanked all those who stood with her in the trying moment, promised to serve the game with commitment.
She had high praise for the Marketing department of the Federation for the great job done to persuade the corporate companies.
She also thanked all the clubs and the Netball stakeholders who have done any to see that the sport maintain it’s number one position in the country.
Blessings and good vibes
Bishop Herbert Buyondo was the last religious leader to pray for the girls as they are taking on the big task.
But before him, at the opening of the event, Church of Uganda religious leaders from Luzira also presented the team in the hands of the Lord.
Musicians King Saha, Pallaso and Geosteady nailed the event with their favorite and hit songs that made the players have a memorable day.
She Cranes Arrive Safely
Today, 22nd July 2023, the She Cranes arrived in South Africa, aboard Uganda Airlines and they will have their first game on Friday 28th July 2023.
The Vitality Netball World Cup 2023 will be the sixteenth staging of the premier competition in international netball.
The tournament will be held from Friday, 28 July to Sunday, 6 August at the International Convention Centre in Cape Town, South Africa.
She Cranes was pitted in group D with defending champions New Zealand, Trinidad and Tobago and Singapore.
The She Cranes have appeared three times in the world cup and the highest finish place was 7th in the last edition in 2019.
