Netball World Cup: She Cranes Coach Mugerwa trims squad to 20 player

The Head Coach of Uganda netball national team, the She Cranes Fred Mugerwa has trimmed his World Cup squad to 20 players.

The group which will be cut to the final 15 players is composed of six shooters, six mid courts and eight defenders.

“We have been monitoring them and we believe that we have made the right selection,” Mugerwa told Nnalubaale Sports.

Fred Mugerwa also talked about where they’ll put more emphasis as they look to name the final Squad.

“We are going to work on the co-ordination so that we get seven trusted starters and also working on defensive department to avoid conceding.”

The team will enter camp this Sunday at the Africa Bible University, Lubowa and they’ll start residential training the following day.

South Africa, together with Australia, England, Jamaica, New Zealand, and Uganda got automatic qualification to the World Cup due to their world ranking.

The Vitality Netball World Cup 2023 will be the sixteenth stage of the premier competition in international netball.

The tournament will be held from Friday, 28 July to Sunday, 6 August at the International Convention Centre in Cape Town, South Africa.

The She Cranes have appeared three times in the World Cup and the highest finish place was 7th in the last edition in 2019.

Mid-court players
Sarah Nakiyunga (NIC), Annet Najjuka (KCCA), Joyce Nakibuule (Prisons), Norah Lunkuse (KCCA), Lillian Achola (Weyonje NC), and Margret Baagala (Assistant Captain, NIC)

Defenders
