In the wake of a disappointing run of form, highlighted by a 3-1 loss to relegation-threatened Bright Stars, the club has made sweeping changes to its technical team, most notably, parting ways with head coach Simon Peter Mugerwa.

Mugerwa, who took the Cops to the Uganda Premier League (UPL) by guiding them to the FUFA Big League title, leaves his post with the team sitting in 12th place on 23 points.

His tenure yielded four wins, eleven draws and seven losses in 22 league matches. Despite also steering Police FC into the quarterfinals of the Stanbic Uganda Cup, recent performances fell short of expectations, prompting the club to act.

Joining Mugerwa through the exit door are his key assistants, First Assistant Coach Robert Ssekweyama and Goalkeeping Coach Kalama Ben Lwanga. In an official statement, the club expressed gratitude for their service and wished them success in their future endeavors.

But while one era ends, another begins with renewed hope. Police FC has turned to veteran tactician Matia Lule to lead the charge forward.

Appointed as interim head coach, Lule returns to the UPL with a wealth of experience and a reputation for strong leadership and tactical intelligence. His arrival signals the club’s intent to steady the ship and chase a stronger finish to the season.

Lule’s résumé is impressive. He has managed top-flight Ugandan clubs including KCCA FC, Express FC, Proline FC and Entebbe FC, among others.

On the international stage, he has served as head coach of Uganda’s U17 and U20 national teams and was assistant coach to Sebastien Desabre with the Uganda Cranes. He also brings recent experience from Tanzania, where he worked with Premier League side Ihefu SC.

To back Lule, Police FC has revamped the rest of its technical staff. Former Uganda Cranes defender Nestroy Kizito steps in as assistant coach while Ahmed Borini Olima adds more depth to the bench.

The goalkeeping department will now be overseen by Steven Billy Kiggundu tasked with revitalizing the squad’s defensive solidity.

This reshuffle is about more than just names; it reflects a shift in mentality. With time still on the clock this season, the Cops lie 13th on the 16-team Log with 23 points and are banking on experience and fresh perspective to spark a turnaround.
