Ugandaโs NIC Netball Club cemented their dominance on the regional stage once again, clinching their record-extending 28th East Africa Netball Club Championship title with a commanding 53-38 victory over KCCA in Tuesdayโs final held in Zanzibar.
The win not only allowed NIC to retain the crown they captured last year in Dar es Salaam, but also reinforced their legacy as the undisputed queens of East African netball.
From the first whistle, the reigning champions showed their pedigree, establishing a 14-11 lead in the opening quarter and never looking back as they powered through to a 15-goal triumph.
NICโs march to the title was nothing short of flawless.
They opened their campaign with a thunderous 78-20 demolition of hosts Zimamoto and breezed through their Group A opponents Uhamiaji, Arusha Jiji, JKU and fellow finalists KCCA without conceding a single match.
In the semifinals, they brushed aside KVZ 71-40 in a show of relentless skill and cohesion.
In contrast, KCCA had to fight tooth and nail to reach the final, narrowly edging Prisons 44-43 in a tense semifinal encounter.
Despite the presence of elite clubs from Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Zanzibar, it was once again the Ugandan powerhouse that stood tall, powered by star-studded performances and unwavering team chemistry.
The awarding ceremony highlighted individual brilliance, with NIC’s Rachael Nanyonga named the tournamentโs Most Valuable Player.
Her teammate Fildauce Namuleme scooped Best Mid Court Player, while Prisonsโ Christine Kango Namulumba and Lillian Ajio were recognized as Best Shooter and Best Defender respectively.
However, questions continued lingering on why there werenโt any KCCA players on the 2025 edition with the Ugandan side being in the final.
