Nile Cricket Club made a memorable debut against Kutchi Tigers B, cruising to a 54-run win in their Division Two, Group A clash on Sunday at Entebbe Cricket Oval. The match was reduced to 35 overs per side due to a morning downpour.
After winning the toss, Nile chose to bat and put up 143 runs in 31.4 overs. Debutant Ronald Lutaaya led the scoring with 29, while Robert Ajuna (26), Robinson Turinawe (21), and Jeff Mwesigwa Kasozi (17*) chipped in to keep the scoreboard ticking.
Kutchi Tigers B started well with the ball, thanks to spinner Chintan Kerai, who took 4 for 25 and had Nile in early trouble. But once Nile took the field, their bowling and fielding turned the game.
Turinawe returned to grab 3 wickets, capping off a solid all-round performance. Sulaiman Mwebaze and Samuel Agum added two wickets each as Kutchi Tigers struggled throughout their chase, finishing on 89 for 9 in the full 35 overs. No batter reached 15 runs.
Turinawe was named Player of the Match for his efforts with both bat and ball. The win lifts Nile to second place in Group A with 7 points, just one behind leaders Soroti City.
Elsewhere around the grounds in division Two, the match between SKLPS and St. John’s was abandoned due to rain
