Uganda’s road to the African Cup of Nations is underway. The men’s senior national handball team, the Nile Kings, has been summoned for a residential training camp as preparations begin for the continental tournament in Kigali, Rwanda.

AFCON runs from January 21 to 31, and the early call-up signals a serious, focused build-up.

The camp brings together seasoned internationals and promising young players from leading clubs and universities, all aimed at forging unity, sharpening tactics and building match fitness.

Head coach Jimmy Remmie Orotin has named a 24-man provisional squad that reflects both competition and balance.

Players have been drawn from established sides such as UPDF HC, Prisons HC, Police HC and Ndejje University, alongside Makerere University, Evergreen, Uzalendo HC and Rwanda’s APR—evidence of Uganda’s growing presence in the region.

In goal, Pirwoth Gerald, Mukunzi Felix and Anuari Jakisa provide depth and reliability.

Across the court, experienced names like Okello Umar, Musoke Douglas, Lukwago Sharifu and Ongom Francis offer stability, while youthful energy comes from university talents including Wokulira Nathan, Okolimong Timothy and Begumisa Keith, all eager to make their mark.

The technical team is equally solid. Orotin is assisted by Odora Patrick Owor, with Onen Christopher handling goalkeepers, Dr. Amanya Banarbas in charge of medical care, and Maj. Henry Mwijuka as team manager.

Together, they carry the responsibility of steering the Nile Kings through the demands of AFCON.
