Uganda’s Senior Men’s Handball team, the Nile Kings, faced a tough outing at the Africa Cup of Nations Handball Championship, suffering a heavy 54-13 defeat to Egypt on the final day of the preliminary round at the BK Arena in Kigali , Rwanda.

The loss capped a challenging start to the tournament for Uganda, who began with a 37-21 defeat to Angola, followed by a 33-16 loss to Gabon.

Against Africa’s handball powerhouses, the Nile Kings struggled to find rhythm, scoring fewer than 10 goals in each half against Egypt. The first half ended 27-5, and the second 27-8.

With the top two teams from each group advancing to the Main Round, and the third- and fourth-placed sides moving to the President Cup, Uganda will now focus on the latter, aiming to salvage pride and improve their ranking.

Their next match is set for Sunday, January 25, against the third-placed team from Group A.

Despite the defeats, the tournament has and is still offering the Nile Kings valuable experience as debutants, highlighting areas for growth as Uganda starts to build its presence in African handball.
