Brian James Obedi cut a proud but composed figure after once again delivering for Police FC, pointing to character, belief and unity as the foundation of their 2-0 win over Calvary FC on Wednesday night.
The forward scored for a third straight league match as Police climbed to the top of the Uganda Premier League table, extending their winning run to three games after a demanding evening at the Police Arena in Kamwokya.
“I’m really excited and I first thank God for the victory and protection,” Obedi said after the match. “It was a hard-fought game, but we’re happy to get the three points. Winning three games in a row gives us momentum and belief to keep pushing.”
The match itself was far from easy. The first half was tight and cautious, with both sides struggling to create clear chances.
Police began to apply more pressure midway through the half, but Calvary held firm, with goalkeeper Hadji Shukuru making key interventions.
At the other end, Muwanga Mathias kept Police level with important saves, and the teams went into the break scoreless.
Obedi said the difference was made in the dressing room.
“We didn’t have a good first half, but we talked things through,” he explained. “We came back knowing we needed the three points. In the second half, we showed the character and belief we had lacked.”
That belief paid off in the 74th minute when Obedi met a well-weighted pass from Richard Matovu and finished calmly to break Calvary’s resistance. It was his third goal of the season, following strikes against BUL FC and KCCA FC.

Although Obedi was later forced off with a head injury, Police maintained control and sealed the result late on.

In the 89th minute, Umaru Kasumba doubled the lead after being set up by Saidi Kyeyune, putting the game beyond doubt.
Named Man of the Match, Obedi said the award was special, especially after battling through a knock.

“I’m happy with the performance,” he said. “I had a setback, but I didn’t give up because I knew what I wanted for myself and for the team. I’m grateful.”
The victory lifted Police FC to 27 points, level at the top with Vipers SC, who have a game in hand, and KCCA FC, who were held by Maroons on Match-day 13.
Police now turn their focus to a tough test away to Vipers in Kitende on 27 January.
