Backrower Odoch Morgan and fullback Malcolm Okello were the stars for the Platinum Credit Heathens as they defeated the KCB KOBs 29-18 away at Legends on Saturday.
Last weekend marked three straight away victories for the Heathens at Legends in these first five months of the year alone; a 30-23 Uganda Cup semifinal win, a 25-13 regular season and the most recent 29-18 championship semifinal win.
Malcolm Okello and Josiah Ssempeke exchanged penalty kicks for their sides, with the visitors heading into the sheds leading 6-2 at halftime. It was Heathens all the way as the KOBs never really got into the game until it was too late.
Okello Malcolm started the second-half proceedings with three penalties, before ably converting tries to centers Michael Wokorach and Innocent Gwokto to push Heathens to a 29-06 advantage.
KOBs’ Late Fightback Falls Short
The KOBs swtiched the returning Kasito from his starting fullback positon to scrum half, which saw the home side move the ball faster with their forwards, and score two late tries to reduce the damage thanks to skipper Derrick Tukwasibwe and former yellow machine member Mike Otto.
Odoch Morgan, fresh out of sin bin had ignited the Heathens attack with a line break that saw his team move from just outside their 22 into the KOBs 22.
The resultant plays saw Michael Wokorach score their first try. He was also immense in the breakdown and defense forcing the KOBs to retreat on multiple occassions.
Jinja Hippos Snatch Dramatic Win from Black Pirates
Across the bridge in Jinja, the Stanbic Black Pirates found heartbreak and sorrow as Jinja Hippos scored a late try through Bright Mukisa to steal the win for the home side, winning 28-27.
The away side enjoyed a comfortable 24-10 half time cushion with three tries through Paul Bagota and Ivan Magomu (x2), the latter converting all three and adding a penalty. The Hippos scored a try, a conversion and a penalty in the first period, all through Elvis Opira.
The Pirates were limited to only one Ivan Magomu penalty in the second half, with the hosts scoring two tries through Jacob Ochen, Bright Mukisa, and a conversion and two penalties through Elvis Opira to snatch the win.
Releagtion battle
The Impis fought back away at Kitante to muscle a 13-all draw in their first round of the releagtion playoff with new boys Kampani’s Eagles.
The Warriors were 24-12 winners away to the Rams in Makerere. The Rams scored four penalties, while the Warriors scored two tries through Ivan Rackara and Badru Sseninde with Hamza Kinyai adding one conversion and four penalties.
