Uganda Cranes head coaches Morley Byekwaso and Fred Muhumuza have named their final 25-man squad for the upcoming CHAN 2024 tournament, which kicks off on August 2 and will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
Allan Okello, the creative force from Vipers SC, has been handed the captain’s armband. The only change from the team that played at the CECAFA 3 Nations Tournament in Arusha is the omission of midfielder Jerome Kirya.
This will be Uganda’s seventh CHAN appearance, having featured in every edition since 2011. The Cranes are placed in a tough Group C alongside Algeria, Guinea, Niger, and South Africa. They begin their campaign on August 4 against Algeria.
“We picked players who understand our game plan and have shown heart during qualifiers and CECAFA,” said assistant coach Fred Muhumuza.
“This tournament is about belief, unity, and making home advantage count.”
