Old Kampala Arena teady for weekend of Handball and Culture

The Old Kampala Arena will erupt with colour and noise this weekend as the 2025 Uganda Handball Super League returns for another round of competitive action.

From Saturday, September 20 to Sunday, September 21, fans can expect a carnival of drums, chants and fierce rivalries as student teams, forces sides, and community clubs light up the court. Games start at 10 am. each day.

The Uganda Handball Federation has invited fans to capture what promises to be more than sport, a celebration of youth energy and one of the country’s fastest-growing games.

Saturday Lineup

The action begins at 10 am. with a women’s clash between Makerere University and Kawanda SS. 

The men follow at 11:30 am. as Uzalendo face Wanainchi, before UPDF meet Evergreen at 1 pm.

Women’s play resumes at 2 p.m. when Kyengeza take on Nkajja, then Makerere University and Kampala University collide in the men’s bracket at 4 pm. 

The day ends with Ndejje University against Prisons in a 5:30 pm. women’s duel.

Sunday Thrills

Day two starts at 10 am. with Kawanda SS versus Nkajja, followed by Wanainchi against Ndejje University at noon. 

At 2 pm, Police challenge UPDF in a forces showdown. The men close the festival with Makerere University versus UPDF at 4 p.m. and Uzalendo against Ndejje University at 6 p.m.

11:30 AM – Uzalendo vs Wanainchi (M)

1 PM – UPDF vs Evergreen (M)

2 PM – Kyengeza vs Nkajja (W)

5:30 PM – Ndejje University vs Prisons (W)

Sunday, September 21

10 AM – Kawanda SS vs Nkajja (W)

12 PM – Wanainchi vs Ndejje University(W)

2 PM – Police vs UPDF (W)

4 PM – Makerere University vs UPDF (M)

6 PM – Uzalendo vs Ndejje University(M)

Handball’s popularity in Uganda is surging and this weekend’s packed slate promises to lift the sport even higher. 

With rivalries as fierce as the drumming in the stands, Old Kampala Arena is set to showcase the heartbeat of a vibrant sporting culture.
