Olila Cricket Club are the new queens of women’s cricket after crushing defending champions Soroti Cricket Club by 9 wickets in the 2025 Women’s T20 League final at Lugogo Oval on Saturday.

In a much-anticipated all-Soroti showdown, Olila delivered a near-perfect performance. They bowled out Soroti for just 74 runs and chased the target down in 14 overs, losing only one wicket.

Olila won the toss and opted to bowl first against Soroti City.

Batting first, Soroti struggled from the start. Only Proscovia Alako (17), Jimia Abdallah Muhammed (15), and captain Janet Mbabazi (14) made it to double digits. Four run-outs and tight spin bowling made scoring difficult.

Immaculate Nandera (2/9) and Nyamer Devine Gabriella (1/15) led Olila’s charge with the ball, with spin proving especially lethal.

In reply, Olila’s top order showed composure. Esther Iloku top-scored with an unbeaten 32 off 31 balls to earn the Player of the Match award. She was supported by Asumin Akurut (25) and Malisa Ariokot (11*), sealing the win comfortably.

Olila captain Phiona Egaru Kulume credited the win to basics and teamwork.

“We kept it simple. The turning point was breaking Alako and Mbabazi’s stand. Spin was key, Josephine Icumar and Divine [Gabriella] were outstanding,” she said.

Soroti’s Alako acknowledged the team’s mistakes.

“We lost wickets too easily. Spin got to us. But we’ll regroup and come back stronger,” she said, also thanking fans who traveled from Soroti.

Post-match celebrations included family involvement. Jimia Muhammed’s mother handed over the Player of the Match award to Esther Iloku, while Lorna Anyait’s mother stepped forward as her daughter received the Best Wicket-Taker trophy (21 wickets).

Individual Honors:

  • Best Batter: Naomi Kayondo – 278 runs
  • Best Wicket taker – Lorna Anyait
  • MVP: Nyamer Devine Gabriella
  • Final’s Player of the Match: Esther Iloku – 32 runs

Olila’s victory marked a shift in power, ending Soroti’s two peat reign, back at home and hinting at a new chapter in the league’s growing legacy.
