Hajji Omar “Mandela” Ahmed Hussein looks set to continue as president of Sports Club Villa after being the only candidate to return nomination papers before Saturday’s deadline.
The SC Villa Electoral Committee confirmed that Mandela, among five who picked forms, fulfilled all submission requirements. His documents have been forwarded for vetting by the club’s trustees.
“Only Mr. Omar Ahmed Hussein returned completed nomination forms and met all conditions,” said Electoral Committee Chairman Brian Kajubi.
The other aspirants; Meywa Farouq, Mbidde Dennis Ssebuggwawo, Bulezi Simeon Kawuma, and Joseph Muguluma Mbazzi, did not submit their papers.
Some cited the high non-refundable nomination fee of UGX 100,000,000 and sought FUFA’s intervention.
Earlier, fans staged a peaceful protest at FUFA House against the fee; about 15 were arrested after police fired tear gas to disperse the crowd.
The vetting process will conclude by 10th March, with fan registration ending on 15th March ahead of the elective congress on 22nd March.
Mandela has led SC Villa since November 2021. Founded in 1975, the club has won 17 Uganda Premier League titles, nine Uganda Cups, and three CECAFA Club championships, with a large following locally and abroad.Hajji Omar “Mandela” Ahmed Hussein looks set to continue as president of Sports Club Villa after being the only candidate to return nomination papers before Saturday’s deadline.
