Ugandan forward Denis Omedi came off the bench to score the winner as Rwanda’s record champions APR edged Gicumbi 2–1 in a tense Rwanda Premier League match at Kigali Pele Stadium on Friday night.
Omedi replaced compatriot Hakim Kiwanuka midway through the second half and needed only minutes to rise highest and head home, sealing APR’s second straight win of the season.
After the match, the 24-year-old credited his faith, posting a verse from Psalms 121:1: “I look up to the mountains, does my help come from it? No, my strength comes from God, maker of the heavens and earth.”
William Togui had opened the scoring for APR in the fifth minute, but Gicumbi quickly leveled through Lola Kanda Moise’s header.
Omedi’s strike broke the deadlock and kept the military side top of the early standings.
Kiwanuka, who started before making way for Omedi, impressed with neat link-up play, underscoring APR’s depth of Ugandan talent.
In another match, Ugandan goalkeeper Nicholas Ssebwato helped Mukura Victory Sports earn a 1–1 draw with Gorilla.
Zuberi Hakizimana put Mukura ahead, but Narcisse Masudi’s late penalty salvaged a point for the visitors.
