One last ride before the playoffs

The Uganda Rugby National Championship will see its final round this weekend as we confirm which teams settle in which positions and who they’ll be coming up against in the knockouts.

The top eight teams (confirmed two weekends ago) will be headed for quarterfinals while the bottom four will be involved in relegation playoffs.

At the rear end of the table is a clash with not much significance to the title but a warm-up for the relegation battle to come. The Lifeguard Rams host the Warriors with the loser of this one definitely cementing the twelfth position. Both teams combined have registered two wins (one apiece), and have conceded the same number of tries this term (44).

Plascon

The Jinja Hippos travel to Entebbe in a game that can (wishfully) give them the top spot after the regular season, or (hopefully) propel the Plascon Mongers into the top four.

The Mongers have been a silent smooth operator this season, mastering seven wins already and just three losses, but the Hippos have had an even better season by many standards; 8 wins, 1 loss and 1 draw. Entebbe has been a good home to the Mongers and they’ll expect to keep their top form and upset the second-placed Hippos.

Roy Kizito will be coming up against his old team, as the Stanbic Black Pirates entertain the hapless Impis at Kings Park Arena. Rhinos hope to end their 5-game losing streak as they go to Kitante to play the stubborn Eagles. The KCB KOBs wind down their regular season at home to the fire-breathing Walukuba Barbarians.

Heathens Unveil New Stripes, Aim for Dominant Win

The Kyadondo derby between Toyota Buffaloes and Platinum Credit Heathens will see a clash between the meanest defenses this year. The Buffaloes have leaked only 12 tries, while the Heathens have allowed even one less (11).

Buffaloes will have a huge task on their hands to keep out an attack that spreads their scorers across the field. The Heathens have 5 different players that have scored 5 or more tries (M. Wokorach 8, J. Oyet 7, M. Amollo 6, L. Sebuliba 5 and M. Okello 5). The rest of the 11 teams combined have a total of 3 players to have scored 5 or more tries (Hippos’ Odhiambo 9, KOBs’ Muwanguzi 7 and Pirates’ Ojeabulu 5) – as compiled by Isa Metrics and Fat Cats.

Heathens will be buoyed by the launch of their away stripes on Friday morning, hoping to debut the colors on Saturday.

“As someone who has represented and captained this club for many years, today feels truly special. Thank you to Platinum Credit Uganda, Mafro Sports, and our partners at Fairway Hotel for making today possible,” said 𝑴𝒊𝒄𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒍 𝑾𝒐𝒌𝒐𝒓𝒂𝒄𝒉, 𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒖𝒎 𝑪𝒓𝒆𝒅𝒊𝒕 𝑯𝒆𝒂𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒏𝒔 𝑹𝑭𝑪 Club 𝑪𝒂𝒑𝒕𝒂𝒊𝒏 at the launch.
