The 2025 FUFA Women’s Cup semifinal cast is nearly complete, with only one spot left to be claimed after Uganda Martyrs Lubaga WFC clinched a dramatic 3-0 penalty shootout victory over Lady Doves on Wednesday evening.
The enthralling quarterfinal showdown ended 1-1 after extra time, but it was the composure of the Uganda Martyrs players from the spot that sealed their progression.
It was captain Latifah Nakasi who ignited the tie with a clinical finish in the 23rd minute, giving the hosts an early advantage.
However, Lady Doves hit back just before halftime when Resty Kobusobozi was brought down in the box by Sharon Kanyiginya. Everline Nandera calmly converted the resulting penalty, restoring parity.
The second half and extra time saw both teams tire, with chances few and far between. In the shootout, Lady Doves crumbled under pressure, missing all three of their opening penalties.
Uganda Martyrs, on the other hand, saw Nakasi and Nusulah Nakintu convert before Kanyiginya buried the decisive spot kick, sending the home fans into wild celebrations.
With this win, Uganda Martyrs advance to face Amus College WFC in a two-legged semifinal starting June 4.
Amus earned their place after a thrilling 3-2 victory over Wakiso Hill, with goals from Esther Namataka, Doreen Aujat and Zabina Namboozo proving just enough to edge past a spirited Wakiso side.
Defending champions She Corporate also booked their semifinal spot, overcoming Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC in a decisive penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw.
Both sides converted their first five penalties, but Kawempe’s Mable Adong struck the post in sudden death, allowing She Corporate to advance.
As it stands, three teams, Uganda Martyrs, Amus College and She Corporate, are confirmed for the semifinals.
The final berth will be determined when Kampala Queens take on St Noa in the remaining quarterfinal clash.
The winner will meet She Corporate in what promises to be another riveting two-legged semifinal fixture.
