Uganda Rugby Sevens has turned a page after head coach Tolbert Onyango stepped down following a decade in charge. The Uganda Rugby Union (URU) has appointed Allan Otim as caretaker coach.
Onyango leaves a lasting mark on the sport, having guided Uganda to Africa Rugby Sevens titles, strong international finishes, and an improved world ranking. He also developed young talent into national stars, many of whom went on to play professionally.
More than trophies, Onyango built a culture of discipline, resilience and teamwork that redefined Uganda Sevens. His departure closes an era, but his influence will remain.
Otim, a long-serving member of the technical bench, now takes the reins. URU described him as “a steady hand” with deep knowledge of the team.
Otim’s first task will taking Uganda through the 27th edition of Safari 7s that kicks off at the Nyayo stadium from the 10th – 12th October.
