Stepping to the core of the electoral roadmap announced on 1st March 2026, Uganda Athletics has had successful elections that saw Dominic Otucet extend the Federation’s leadership to a fifth term with two changes from the 2022-2026 executive.
After being elected on March 28 during the elective assembly held in Namboole at Mandela National Stadium, Otucet stated, “I am grateful to God that I am elected for the fifth term. We have achieved big in terms of results, but we also have the mandate to model the future leadership, and two changes have come on the executive.”
In the election which was chaired by Kenneth Kitariko, Otucet along with his executive was announced unopposed, with the president continuing to stand unopposed since he was elevated to replace Daniel Tamwesigire in 2009.
In the changes on the executive, Abdallah Muhammed and Benjamin Njia stepped down. Godwin Byamukama was brought in as assistant General Secretary replacing David Mawerere, who took over from Abdallah Muhammed as Publicity Secretary.
Njia, who has been the Vice President Technical, was replaced by Former Athlete Annet Kabasindi, becoming the second lady on the executive joining Federation’s General Secretary Beatrice Ayikoru and the key figure of the Executive.
The executive maintained Faustino Kiwa as the treasurer, Lawrence Kavuma as the Vice President of Administration, and Paul Okello as the organizing Secretary while Godfrey Chen Wengo continued as the Athletics representative.
