On Sunday, March 2, 2025, the Uganda Boxing Federation conducted weigh-ins for boxers ahead of the National Open.
Over 500 boxers from 50 clubs were weighed for the boxing event which will commence on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at the Lugogo National Council of Sports.
Among the boxers weighed, 70 are women, while the rest are men, including Uganda Boxing Champions League dropouts Adnan Yasin, Moses Kabuuka, and Collins Mutyaba.

All three returned and weighed in after two and three years away from the Uganda National Boxing Open.
Mutyaba and Kabuuka are among the boxers who participated in the inaugural Champions League in 2021 but withdrew during the event. Adnan had been in the Champions League since 2023 before retiring last year.
The National Open includes men and women boxers aiming for promotion to the Uganda Boxing Champions League with each weight category providing two slots to replace those dropped for poor performance.
Notably, last year’s National Open proved strong, with promoted boxers registering eye-catching performances.
Nuhu Batte and Owen Kibira, among others, won their Champions League weight categories, while Nerick Tumusiime and others also performed superbly.
The Uganda National Boxing Open is also an event that awards club championships, with Lukanga Boxing Club being a powerhouse, having won the Open for the past three consecutive years.
The event will commence from Tuesday, March 4th, to Sunday, March 8th, 2025, with the finals expected to be hosted at the Lugogo Indoor Arena.
