Palm Valley Golf & Country Club is set to host a highly anticipated Independence tournament on Wednesday morning. The nine-hole course in Akright Housing Estate will welcome golfers from some of Uganda’s top clubs, including Mary Louise Simkins Golf Club, Lake Victoria Serene Golf Resort & Spa, Uganda Golf Club, and Entebbe.

Known for its unique layout, Palm Valley offers a challenging and enjoyable experience for golfers of all skill levels. The course features a demanding par-4 opening hole, a tricky par-3 second, and a deceptively difficult par-4 third. Elevated greens throughout the course require precise chipping and putting skills for success.

The tournament will kick off at 7 AM with Michael Monne, a local golfer with a distinct advantage due to his proximity to the course. Monne will be joined by Sean Kinsella, Andrew Baguma, and national team golfer Elton Thembo.

The two par-5s, holes 5 and 6, are widely considered the most challenging on the course. The fifth is a 506-yard par-5, while the sixth stretches to 600 yards. Both holes require accurate driving to avoid out-of-bounds and approach the greens.

The afternoon session will begin at noon, featuring John Muchiri, Isaac Mariera, Jeff Baitwa, Rukia Nalwoga, and other notable golfers, including Attorney General Kiryowa Kiwanuka.

Prizes will be awarded to the overall winners and second-placed golfers in groups A, B, and C for men, and A and B for women. Additional side bets will be held for nearest to the pin and longest drive.
