In his end-of-year message at the Uganda Olympics Committee office in Lugogo, UOC President Dr Donald Rukare stressed the importance of the PAMOJA project.
Uganda and her East African countries sisters; Kenya and Tanzania are preparing to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations as a block.
A number of sports facilities are under construction as part of the process, and Rukare believes that this is the opening route for many international events in Uganda.
“Facilities have been one of our industry’s major challenges, but now they’re being addressed, and after the AFCON, we will have only the hurdle of maintaining them.
“With good maintenance, the facilities will play a big role in the industry’s growth as it honours us chances to bid for hosting rights of different events,” Rukare added.
The meet-up was set to mirror back into 2024, look forward to 2025 and further future of Uganda Sports. Rukare’s deputy Moses Mwase, and executive member Ann Mungoma among others were in attendance.
In their submission, UOC rated the year 2024 a successful one in covering calendar activities by around 98% with hosting the IOC President Dr Thomas Bach at the top.
Uganda also hosted the President of the Association of National Olympic Committee of Africa, Mustafa Barraf and in addition the African Olympic Debate.
The debate in Kampala attracted some African countries. Lastly, UOC hosted the African Law Weimar which was attended by participants from Africa, Asia and Europe.
On the field, excellence was registered through participation in the 2024 Olympics Games in Paris with 25 athletes representing the nation which finished 55th overall and 7th in Africa.
At the continental level, Uganda finished 13th at the African Games scooping a total of 20 medals with the support of government and corporate partners like Kansai Plascon Uganda.
In administration, Harriet Anya became a member of FIG, Simon Peter Komakech became the Vice President of Modern Pentathlon Africa and Sadik Nassiwu secured membership at the Zone 3 Africa Volleyball Federation.
To cut a long story short, UOC is looking forward to holding its Elective Assembly and as well implementing the strategic plan. Sporting-wise, participating in the Islamic Sports Solidarity Games and Commonwealth Games will take centre stage.
