PAMOJA: Uganda LOC gives orientation to over 500 Volunteers ahead of CHAN 2024

With 9 days to Africa Nations Championship kick off, the local organizing committee in Uganda has oriented volunteers.

Sumaya Huud Kiwanuka, who managed the bidding process of the CHAN 2024 project, spoke on the development held at Lugogo Indoor Arena on Thursday, July 24.

“Today, we have held two training sessions for people who opted to volunteer in CHAN 2024. We have chosen to use volunteers because they are people who will do their duties with love, since we are looking for people with good character to majorly handle the hospitality of the people who are coming to watch CHAN’s games.

“They will have to work under the supervision of CAF supervisors, and they will be working in bits,” she added.

Kiwanuka is the FUFA official in charge of FIFA forward Projects in Uganda, and she also sits on the CHAN and AFCON local organizing committee as Secretary for Workforce and Volunteering committee under Justus Mugisha.

The training had two sessions, with each session in the morning and evening having 230 participants.

The trained volunteers will be stationed for the purposes of logistics, hospitality, protocol, media operations, and fan services.The trained volunteer will be stationed across designated venues for CHAN 2024 in Uganda.

The training is one of the alarms that indicating the readiness of Uganda to host the CHAN 2024.

A numberlly of five teams including Uganda, Algeria, South Africa, Niger and Guinea were placed in group C and they will have to play all their group stage matches at Mandela National Stadium in Namboole.

Uganda is holding the hosting rights of the tournament, which is commencing on August 2 to 31, sharing with Kenya and Tanzania under the PAMOJA umbrella.

The same umbrella is a used tool in hosting the Africa Cup of Nations 2027, again with the same countries.
