Uganda Cranes head coach Paul Put wants a stronger, sharper display from his team as they close the international break with a tough test against hosts Morocco on Tuesday at Stade Tangier.

Preparing for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Put didn’t hide his mixed feelings about last week’s 2–1 win over Chad. The result pleased him; the performance did not.

“In the game against Chad, we didn’t perform to our best but the most important thing is we won,” Put said.

“Morocco is another test and it will give us a good challenge.”

That challenge comes against a polished Atlas Lions side that edged Mozambique 1–0 earlier in the window.

Even without Achraf Hakimi and Nayef Aguerd, Morocco remain one of Africa’s toughest teams, exactly the kind of opponent Put wants to measure his group against.

Uganda will also miss key players of their own, defender Aziz Kayondo, goalkeeper Jamal Salim, winger Rogers Mato, and centre back Elio Capradossi.

Their absence gives fringe players a chance to stake a claim.

Put is expected to adjust his lineup, with skipper Khalid Aucho likely to steady the midfield, Kenneth Ssemakula to bolster the backline, veteran Denis Onyango to return in goal, and Steven Mukwala to lead the attack.

For Put, this is a gauge of Uganda’s AFCON readiness and a chance to build confidence and cohesion in a squad still settling under his leadership.
