Uganda Cranes head coach Paul Joseph Put has renewed his commitment to Ugandan football, signing a new two and a half year contract to continue leading the national team.

The announcement was made on Thursday morning at FUFA Stadium, Kadiba, by FUFA 1st Vice President Justus Mugisha and CEO Edgar Watson, who hailed Putโ€™s impact since his appointment in November 2023.

โ€œThe FUFA Executive Committee made a rare decision to renew Coach Paul Putโ€™s contract, a testament to his outstanding performance,โ€ said Mugisha.

โ€œWe even beat off competition from some of Africaโ€™s top and wealthiest footballing nations that wanted him.โ€

Since taking charge, Put has overseen a strong resurgence for the Cranes ,  returning them to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and boosting hopes in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.

In 23 games, his side has recorded 13 wins, 3 draws, and 7 losses, scoring 30 goals and conceding 24.

FUFA CEO Edgar Watson said the renewal reflects the federationโ€™s desire for stability and long-term growth.

โ€œWe look forward to achieving even more under FUFAโ€™s vision of becoming Africaโ€™s top football nation, both on and off the pitch,โ€ he noted.

Shortly after signing the new deal, Put named a 26-man squad for two upcoming friendlies during the international window.

The Cranes will face Chad on November 15 and Morocco on November 19, with both matches set to be played in Morocco.
