Uganda Rugby 7s captain Peace Lekuru is off to a flying start in England’s Betfred Women’s Super League, quickly turning heads in her debut season with York Valkyrie RLFC.
Lekuru made her first appearance in a 28–4 win over Leigh Leopards. Though playing out of position on the wing and still new to Rugby League, she stood out immediately.
“She’s never played on the wing and has only had a few games of Rugby League,” said Valkyrie Director of Rugby Lindsay Anfield. “But she carried hard and was a real asset.”
A week later, Lekuru left no doubt. She scored a second-half hat-trick against Barrow Raiders Ladies, with tries in the 45th, 62nd, and 74th minutes to lead York to a dominant 58–0 victory.
Her strength, speed, and sharp finishing have made her a fan favourite and a rising star in the league.
York Valkyrie have won six of their eight matches and sit third on the table. They face Huddersfield Giants next on Sunday, July 27, at York Community Stadium.
