Uganda’s golf scene is getting a timely boost with the launch of the Pearl of Africa Golf Series 2026, a competition designed to raise the standard of the professional game and give players a clearer path to the international stage.
The privately run series aims to align Uganda’s golf ecosystem with global standards while working toward recognition under the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR).
More importantly, it offers something players have long needed, consistent competition and reliable earnings.
By bringing together top local and regional professionals, alongside elite amateurs, the series creates a stronger, more competitive field.
It also introduces a structured prize system, sponsorship opportunities, and greater visibility for players looking to grow their careers.
The tournament will be played across three courses during the year, ending at the venue that will host the Uganda Open.
The opening event will take place at Entebbe Club, with professionals competing from April 2 to 4, while elite amateurs play from April 1 to 3.
Entry fees are set at UGX 150,000 for professionals, UGX 100,000 for gross amateurs, and UGX 50,000 for the subsidiary event.
Both professionals and top amateurs will compete over 54 holes in a three-day stroke play format, while the subsidiary category will be a one-day, 18-hole event.
A cut will apply in the professional category, with only the top 20 players progressing after two rounds.
The series is led by tournament director Paul Habyarimana, supported by a team of referees to ensure smooth and fair competition. Clear rules on pace of play, scoring, and conduct are in place to maintain high standards throughout.
There is also strong financial incentive. The professional prize pool stands at UGX 30 million, with UGX 27 million paid out to the top 20 players. The winner will take UGX 4.32 million. In the amateur category, a UGX 5 million pool will reward the top six players.
Winners in tied positions will be decided through sudden-death playoffs, adding excitement to the final stages. Payments will be made through formal channels, reflecting the professional structure of the event.
With its focus on competition, organization, and player development, the Pearl of Africa Golf Series 2026 offers more than just tournaments.
