FC Midtjylland Women have officially announced the signing of Phiona Nabbumba, the Crested Cranes’ midfield maestro.
The Danish club confirmed the news on their website and Instagram, marking another significant milestone in Nabbumba’s impressive football journey.
A Star in Women’s Football

Phiona Nabbumba has been a standout figure in Ugandan women’s football, consistently delivering remarkable performances both domestically and internationally.
After leaving She Corporate in 2023, where she played a pivotal role in their FUFA Women Super League triumph, Nabbumba joined B93 in Denmark.
She made an immediate impact, helping her former team secure top-flight football last season.
Known for her calm and composed style, Nabbumba now steps into a new challenge with FC Midtjylland Women, ready to contribute to their continued success in the Gjensidige Women’s League.
A Welcome Addition to FC Midtjylland
The club’s Sports Director, Anders Madsen, expressed his excitement at adding Nabbumba to their squad.
“We are pleased to add Phiona Nabbumba to our talented and strong squad. Phiona brings valuable experience from the Gjensidige Women’s League and international matches for Uganda. She has FCM DNA; she is willing to run, aggressive, strong in her positioning, and her dueling game,” said Madsen.
He further highlighted her central midfield role, emphasizing how her skills would strengthen the team’s pressure, balance, and overall gameplay.
Nabbumba herself shared her excitement, saying, “I am delighted to be joining FC Midtjylland! The club’s commitment to women’s football and its reputation for excellence align with my own values and ambitions. I look forward to becoming part of a talented team and contributing to the club’s growth and success.”
Nabbumba’s move to FC Midtjylland is a testament to her ambition and relentless drive to succeed.
In 2022, she was named the USPA Player of the Year and led the Crested Cranes to victory in the CECAFA Senior Women’s Challenge Cup.
She also earned the title of Most Valuable Player during the 2021/22 FUFA Women Super League season.
Her journey from Ajax Queens to She Corporate, then to Denmark, and now to one of the top clubs in the Gjensidige Women’s League, reflects her growth as one of Uganda’s finest football exports.
Nabbumba has made no secret of her lofty ambitions stating;
“My ambition as a footballer is to become one of the best players in the world. I strive to improve, learn from my experiences, and push myself to new heights.”
With her talent, determination, and the support of a strong team at FC Midtjylland Women, the sky’s the limit for Nabbumba.
