Leading Ugandan paint manufacturer Plascon has pledged over 30 million Ugandan shillings to support the upcoming 7th Uganda International Para-Badminton Championships.

The sponsorship, announced just days before the tournament kicks off, will significantly enhance the event’s operations.

Tournament Details and Sponsorship Breakdown

Scheduled for July 1st-7th at the Lugogo Indoor Stadium, the competition will begin with qualifications on July 1st, followed by matches from July 2nd to 7th. Plascon’s generous contribution will be a combination of cash and in-kind support.

Plascon Committed to Long-Term Support for Para-Badminton

Santosh Gumte, Managing Director of Kansai Plascon, emphasized the company’s dedication to fostering sports that struggle to secure sponsorships. He highlighted Plascon’s commitment to forging a long-term partnership with the Uganda Badminton Association (UBA) to continually support para-badminton events.

”This is not going to be a one-off sponsorship and we are going to talk to Uganda Badminton Association and see how best we can always support this sport whenever they have events. Uganda has many talented players, just that they lack support,” Gumte reaveled.

UBA Welcomes Plascon’s Sponsorship as a Game-Changer

Simon Mugabi, CEO of the Uganda Badminton Association, expressed his elation at Plascon’s involvement. “Plascon’s contribution is a massive win for this year’s event,” he stated.

“Their support includes financial aid and essential materials like event branding, Ugandan team jerseys, and staff attire. As their slogan suggests, we’re confident they’ll also add vibrant colors to the tournament.”

Plascon Makes a Statement with Para-Badminton Sponsorship

This marks the biggest sponsorship ever received by the Uganda International Para-Badminton Championships since its inception in 2017. The credit goes partly to the tireless efforts of the UBA’s marketing team, Dr. Venkata Krishnan and Dr. Mohamed Rafi.

Plascon is already a prominent supporter of Ugandan sports, sponsoring events like the Buganda Masaza Cup, Bika Tournament, Vipers Sports Club, Rugby’s Entebbe Mongers, She Cranes – the national women’s netball team, and the Ugandan cricket national team.

International Participation Expected

This year’s tournament boasts participation from a record-breaking 17 countries, with a total of 250 players vying for glory. Uganda itself will field 37 athletes. Countries like Kenya, Togo, Israel, Brazil, Egypt, Nigeria, Mexico, Italy, Ivory Coast, India, and Zambia are among those confirmed to participate.

India dominated the 2023 edition, and it will be interesting to see if another nation can challenge their supremacy this year.
