The National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (LGRB) is working closely with the Uganda Police to enforce responsible gaming and tackle illegal gambling across the country.
LGRB CEO Denis Mudene is meeting with Regional and District Police Commanders to strengthen enforcement of the Lotteries and Gaming Act. The law allows gaming only in gazetted areas: cities, municipalities, and town councils.
โThese rules are here to protect communities, especially the vulnerable,โ said Mudene. โWe need police support to keep operations legal and safe.โ
Police welcomed the partnership. Commissioner of Operations, CP James Ruhweza, praised the Boardโs efforts and pledged full police cooperation.
โWith 32 regions and 186 districts under our watch, we are ready to help enforce the law,โ Ruhweza said. โWhen we act on illegal gaming, itโs not to disrupt lives, itโs to protect them.โ
The LGRB says rising gaming addiction, especially among youth, is a growing concern as more people turn to betting and online gambling.
Ugandans struggling with addiction or those wanting to report illegal operations can call the Boardโs toll-free helpline at 0800 285 800.
As gaming shifts from arcades to online platforms, the Board is adjusting to ensure safety and fairness.
โWhether youโre betting in Kampala or gaming on your phone, weโre working to protect you,โ Mudene said.
The LGRB licenses and monitors all gaming operators in Uganda, handles public complaints, and promotes a responsible gaming culture.
โPlay smart, play safe,โ Mudene added. โLetโs keep gaming fun, not harmful.โ
