Police FC and Kitara FC have secured their spots in the Uganda Cup quarterfinals following hard-fought victories in their respective Round of 16 fixtures on Monday, March 17.

At Luzira Prison Grounds, Police FC emerged victorious in an all-Uganda Premier League battle against Maroons FC, sealing a narrow 1-0 win.

The game’s decisive moment came early in the first half, with Denis Kalanzi heading home the only goal in the 9th minute. His goal came from a well-executed give-and-go with Emmanuel Mugume, capitalizing on a rebound to put the Cops ahead.

Despite Maroons’ efforts to level the score, Police FC’s resolute defence held firm, making them the first team to book a place in the quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, at Entebbe Works Ground, defending champions Kitara FC triumphed over Gaddafi FC with a 2-1 victory, eliminating the Big League side in the process.

Gaddafi captain Thomas Kakaire opened the scoring in the 16th minute, giving his side an early advantage. However, Kitara responded quickly, equalizing three minutes before the half-hour mark through Fred Amaku.

The second half saw a tense battle, but it was John Byaruhanga who made the difference for Kitara, netting the winning goal in the 65th minute, sealing a quarterfinal berth for the Hoima-based side.

The 51st edition of the Stanbic Uganda Cup, co-sponsored by Plascon Uganda, is not just a fight for silverware but also serves as a platform for young players to showcase their skills.
