The 2025 Uganda Handball National League came to an exciting close on Saturday, October 25, at the Old Kampala Sports Arena, with Police Women and UPDF Men emerging as champions.
For Police Women, it was business as usual. The law enforcers clinched their fifth straight league title, reaffirming their dominance in women’s handball. They finished with 34 points, five ahead of second-placed Prisons.

Defender Lilian Ochola, who also plays for the She Cranes, reflected on their journey:
“This season didn’t start well because we were few players,” Ochola said.
“Coach later brought in young players from Bombay SS, and it took time to build chemistry. But by mid-season, we were strong, winning comfortably and building a big lead.”
Despite injuries and school absences affecting their squad, Police maintained their composure to the end.
Their only setback came on the final day when Prisons beat them 34–30, denying them an unbeaten season, but not the crown.
In the men’s league, Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) reclaimed the title in dominant fashion, finishing with 32 points, four ahead of Prisons. They sealed the championship with a 52–43 win over Prisons in their last match.
Captain Francis Ongom praised the team’s hard work and preparation:
“Our success comes from intense training, strength sessions, ball play, and teamwork,” Ongom said.
“Last year, we lost the title to Ndejje by just five goals. That pushed us to work harder. This win gives us confidence for the Zone 5 Club Championship we’ll host next month.”
Police Men finished third on 21 points, followed by Uzalendo (18). In the women’s category, Victoria University (24), Kyengeza Bees (23), and UPDF (22) rounded off the top five.
The final matchday was full of drama. Kyengeza Bees edged Victoria University 30–29 in a tense women’s clash, while Makerere University beat Evergreen 35–30 in the men’s fixture, a fitting send-off for veteran Ivan Odur Junior, who officially retired from competitive play.
With the curtain now closed, the Uganda Handball Federation (UHF) celebrated a successful season, highlighting the consistency of Police Women and the resurgence of UPDF Men, both set to represent Uganda at the East and Central Club Championships in November.
